Meal Prepping 101

Sounds intimidating right? I promise you it’s not!

Iv’e been meal prepping for roughly a year, and I have to say it seriously has changed my lifestyle, health, and overall happiness.

I got into meal prepping a little over a year ago with the major help of a friend. She’s someone who lives a pretty busy life, and being a witness to it, I saw how beneficial prepping meals and having food readily available really is to your every day hectic schedule. 

Let me just start off by saying meal prepping can be altered to your diet, your food preference, and of course, the amount of time you have available. If you’re able to prep at least one dish for dinner and one for lunch, it cuts back the amount of time you’re spending in the kitchen and puts some extra money in your pocket to allocate towards something else. 

A great idea is to take one day of the week that you’re off to make at least two big dinner meals, two big lunch meals, and a few smaller sides to pair with the main courses. This way there's some variety for dinner during the week after a long day, and also packed lunches for work for a few days as well. 

If you want to go as far as breakfast ideas, there are tons of baked and non-baked options you can prepare ahead of time that holds well and can be thrown in a lunch bag for work, too!

If you’re a beginner, the best way to start is to create a menu that’s not too difficult to make, focus on foods you can throw in the oven to bake so it’s less hassle and clean up, and make a larger quantity of proteins that can be paired with quick sides that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. 

Having pastas, rice, potatoes, and frozen or fresh veggies in your pantry on a weekly basis is highly convenient. They're quick sides you can throw together in a short period of time and switching up your spice blend or sauces provides you choices so you won't get tired of eating the same thing regularly.

Also, storing your meals in air-tight containers and keeping refrigerated until you warm up your portions keeps the food fresh longer.
