New Year, New Goals

With the start of a new year, it’s time to set some new goals! While resolutions are more common, I like the idea of goals better.

A resolution typically means making a firm decision to do or not do something. There can be added pressures in setting resolutions and then disappointment when they aren’t achieved. While a goal is more reflective on your ambitions and efforts to reach for what you desire.

I’ve put together five main goals I want to aim for this new year, and some are things I’ve already started working on even before the new year set in.

  1. Step Out of my Comfort Zone - I’m a huge creature of habit. For a long time, I’ve enjoyed being a homebody, partly because I love my space, but also because of my anxiety levels when being in a new environment or experimenting with something I haven’t before. This new year I really want to overcome that and see more of what the world has to offer. Stepping out of your comfort zone not only can help overcome that anxiety, but also allow me to venture out more and try new things. As humans, we should always strive to do more, try more, and be more. Level up always!

  2. Channeling my Creativity - There’s so much peace and calm when I’m able to create. Whether it be writing, content creating, DIYs, or cooking, creativity is an outlet that has always helped me to show another side of myself. Being able to show my passion to create not only produces something new that I can be proud of, but also gives me an outlet to overcome anxiety as well. It’s something special to me and for me because I’ve always known I am an artistic and creative person.

  3. Focus on Professional Growth - Growth professionally is always important to me. As someone who values their career and achievements, making the next steps towards my career is a priority. Being at a standstill isn’t an option, especially when you love what you do and want to learn more, achieve more, and continue climbing the ladder to success. So focusing on my professional growth and goals for making that next climb is something I plan to focus on and work towards to better myself, and in turn, helps others as well.

4. Strengthen Relationships - As we get older, our circle of close friends and family tends to become smaller. And it’s important to me to have the right people at my side as I mature. Evaluating your circle, weeding out those that don’t push you, motivate you, or strengthen you is success in the long run. And strengthening those relationships is just as important. Hold on to those that matter and let them know they do. We only have but so much time together.

5. Put Myself Above All Else - Probably my most important goal is putting myself first. For so much of my life, I’ll admit to taking the backseat when it came to others. I struggle with standing up more and letting my voice be heard. So I aim to continue changing that. My goal is to learn and put to fruition myself coming before all else. My happiness and wants should never take the backseat. Focus on your self; it isn’t being selfish, it’s being confident and knowing your worth.

The most important thing to focus on when setting these goals, in my opinion, is setting what’s attainable and what truly matters to you.
